MEPW: Power Analysis

For some time now, I have been doing a study on power. Perhaps because of the nature of the phenomenon itself, it appears that everyone attempts to define it from the point-of-view of their own agenda. For instance, economic theory (get the money), leadership (take control), war (who should win or lose), legitimacy (who has the right to dominate), policy (why we must tow the line), ideology (who has the right ideas). Shrinks and sociologists codify power within pseudo-scientific theories, philosophers according to other wobbly ideas and criminals base their concepts of power on weakness and gullibility.

As we will be looking at twelve different issues that imperil the very existence of life on earth today, we can be sure that all of the above has contributed to the crisis. Thus, those hereinbefore defined concepts of power are relegated to the dust bin as they have combined to do great harm, both unwitting and intentional. We must start over again with what it is that is life enhancing, and decide whose game we’re going to play and whether or not we want to fight to win.

Interspersed among the power panderers, there are those who have sought a greater understanding of the subject of power and I have come across some brilliant observations, insights, perceptions and explanations. Their open-mindedness coincides with the domineering and grasping demands of the topic and give us hope. Their writings and comments have helped inform my own and we can all draw on their work to help us find a creative direction out of the paralyzing oppression of the problems of power. We will discuss all of this in the upcoming Power Notes segment of this blog. So to hell with Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, and the endless roster of murderers, pillagers, exploiters and liars who have been models for making our dominant human ethics what they are – reprehensible.

In the beginning and in the end, the greatest power is the life force and in accordance with the feminine principle we will find our own definition of what power is, should be and must be if we are to continue as a species.
